ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wildlife officials say baby copperheads are more active in October and advise hikers and gardeners to stay alert on trails and in yards. The young snakes with yellow-green tail tips are found in damp, shaded areas—like under logs and rocks—and should be given space to help control rodents. WCYB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Healthcare leaders warned federal lawmakers that a law capping federal student loans to $200,000 in total and $50,000 per year may push future physicians to choose higher-paying specialties over primary care—Tracy Douglas said the limits could worsen provider shortages in rural areas. ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine said it is reviewing the change and will help students secure additional financial aid if needed—this step aims to keep medical education affordable and support community health centers.
