- ➤ The Unicoi County Apple Festival returns today in Erwin after last year's cancellation due to Helene with more than 400 craft and food vendors set up & over 120,000 visitors expected. Organizers have unveiled a new tourism project that features an art-inspired Apple Orchard Walking Trail to boost the local economy. WCYB
- ➤ A procession was held Friday for fallen firefighter Brandon Clawson after he died earlier this week. The route began at the Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City—continuing through local streets to Kingsport. WCYB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Johnson City Board of Commissioners is taking letters of interest to fill a vacant seat after John Hunter resigned; residents may send applications by Oct. 10 at noon in person or by email — all submissions will be posted on the city website. The board will pick two finalists on Oct. 13 at 9 a.m., hold interviews on Oct. 14 at 4 p.m., and the new commissioner will be sworn in at its meeting on Oct. 16. WCYB
- ➤ On October 3rd, TABC agents checked stores in Bristol on a ride along to make sure vape products were not sold to minors+ the inspection followed new rules set by the general assembly to curb youth vaping. WCYB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Veteran Affairs Mountain Home Hospital in Johnson City began major campus upgrades as part of an $800 million package from the Veterans Health Administration. The projects include a nearly $40 million IT upgrade and almost $30 million boiler room work—efforts that will keep patient appointments on track over the next few years. WCYB
