EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Former ETSU President Dr. Paul Stanton Jr.—who served as College of Medicine Dean from 1987 to 1997 and as President from 1997 to 2012—died on Thursday morning at age 81 after an extended decline in health. A celebration of his life is planned around Easter. WCYB
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents and travelers near South Holston Lake are cautioned they may see smoke from prescribed burns — planned by USDA and US Forest Service experts to remove debris and spur plant growth. Weather conditions will determine the daily work on the forest floor. WFHG
- ➤ An eaglet hatched at ETSU Eagle Cams Bluff City Nest early Wednesday at 12:38 a.m. Officials said one egg broke because it was not fertilized (likely nonviable) and that they will continue to monitor the nest. WCYB
