The Johnson City Public Library launched the Food for Fines drive to help families in need by partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank & accepting canned and non-perishable food donations that give residents $2 off overdue fees.

The drive runs from November 3rd through December 15th with donations accepted at the library's circulation desk or curbside.

A fire gutted century-old Sells Hall on the King University campus Saturday — state officials are investigating the cause as crews from several counties fought the blaze and reported no injuries.

Johnson City announced that Lansing Melbourne Group will redevelop the John Sevier Center and Downtown Centre into a boutique hotel — with shops, event spaces, dining and a rooftop bar — as part of a plan to boost downtown activity.

City officials expect the project to drive further growth around downtown as surrounding properties evolve.
