COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Gabby Foundation + the Children's Advocacy Center of Sullivan County are accepting toy donations for their 6th Annual Christmas Toy Drive that honors Gabby Kennedy and Kristina, who died in a domestic violence shooting in 2020. Local businesses are encouraged to help by hosting donation bins + displaying flyers as donations are accepted until Dec. 13.  WCYB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fred Kemp, an advanced EMT and rescue technician with 28 years of service at Washington County/Johnson City EMS, died on Tuesday during a training exercise and officials said they will provide more details later.  WCYB
  • A government shutdown has raised fears that SNAP benefits will end after Oct. 31—putting many families at risk of food shortages. Regional food bank leaders warn that Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia could see a growing need for assistance if lawmakers do not reach a deal soon.  WCYB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Norah Nutter is a nurse practitioner from Bristol who was diagnosed with stage 1B breast cancer in 2019 and underwent a lumpectomy with reconstruction—she now gets regular checkups and says her faith helps her stay strong.  WCYB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Greeneville High School senior Zaydyn Anderson shined in a win over Volunteer by recording 179 receiving yards and three touchdowns while adding one passing and one rushing play for over 240 total yards in a 42 to 7 game. The team captain, who plans to play for the University of Tennessee, credited his teammates as his coach praised his work ethic — noting his bright future in football.  WCYB
