  • After Hurricane Helene canceled last year's event, the Unicoi County Apple Festival returns to Erwin this Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.—the festival will feature over 420 food and craft vendors, an additional entertainment stage and an expanded children’s area.  WFHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jerry Agan, an agricultural mechanics teacher at Elizabethton High School, was named a $100,000 grand prize winner for Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Teaching Excellence. He will use the funds to buy more tools for his program—he is one of five teachers nationwide to earn the award.  WCYB

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Appalachian Highlands Humane Society is raising funds for Koa’s lifesaving liver surgery after he was rescued from a hoarding situation—so far they have collected $7,000 toward the $15,000 goal and plan to operate as soon as enough funds are secured.  WCYB
