GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washington County Commission voted unanimously to increase school security funding by approving $2 million from next year's budget so K-8 buildings can receive vestibule upgrades like those already installed at the high schools. Superintendent Jerry Boyd said the new funds will improve student safety and the work will begin as soon as possible.  WFHG
  • Sheriff Keith Sexton said yesterday that his office sent all body camera and dash camera footage to the 1st Judicial District Attorney General after a court order. His office will use this move to keep reviews of evidence clear in criminal cases — showing its commitment to transparency.  WCYB

  • Johnson City barber Craig Charles will talk with teens on Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Library’s Jones Meeting Center—registration is required as he discusses mental health and his work with The Confess Project.  Johnson City Public Library
