  • Residents gathered at Winged Deer Park on Labor Day to enjoy water sports, picnics, and sunny weather, marking the unofficial end of summer. Neighbors turned the day into a fun community event — a warm goodbye to the season.  WCYB

CRIME NEWS

  • A fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 11E (near Grandview Elementary School in Jonesborough) occurred Saturday and closed part of the road for nearly three hours; the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident (details pending).  WFHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Surgoinsville Middle School teacher Josh Fritts started the Screaming Eagles program to help students learn music by playing instruments and singing songs they choose—high schoolers who took the class now perform at local venues and earn money from gigs.  WCYB

SPORTS NEWS

  • College football season started this weekend with wins for the ETSU Bucs, UT Vols, and Emory & Henry Wasps—while the VA Tech Hokies lost to South Carolina. ETSU beat Murray State 45—17, UT defeated Syracuse 45—26 at Neyland Stadium, and the Wasps won 45—17 over Glenville State.  WFHG
