🎓 Education
Washington County Schools Superintendent Jerry Boyd presented a mockup for a display featuring the Ten Commandments, a sentence from the Declaration, and the Constitution preamble.
The board will consider approval of its design at the Sept. 15 meeting (the display is allowed under new law).
The 4-H exhibit at the Appalachian Fair features projects by 4th to 12th graders from eight counties, with over 2,200 pieces on display in 19 projects that teach baking, crafts, and public speaking skills — preparing students for life after school.
🏥 Health
A data report from Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee shows that all five food bank service areas are above national food insecurity levels — Hancock County has the highest rate at 24.8% overall and 30.4% for children.
