A federal judge ruled that Kingsport doctor Scott McLain, arrested July 1 and charged with four felonies including health care benefit fraud, making false statements, and distribution of controlled substances, is a flight risk and will remain in jail with his next court appearance set for August 7 in Greeneville.

Two former Quillen VA Medical Center employees, Monika Schorer and Teresa Schorer (both 59) from Jonesborough were sentenced in Greeneville to eight months in prison, ordered to pay over $213,000 in restitution and a $10,000 fine, and must serve three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a bribery scheme.

Nathaniel White-Young pleaded guilty in Sullivan County on July 10 to murdering Melissa Mingle, the mother of his son, and he was sentenced to 37 years in prison.

Waterbourne navigation under the Wilbur Dam Road bridge on the Wilbur Reservoir will be restricted next week as TVA installs a turbidity curtain and begins work on a new bridge, which is planned for completion in 2027 — traffic across the old bridge has already been limited to one lane.
