CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Johnson City man was sentenced to 22 years in prison for second-degree murder after being found guilty earlier this year of killing James Allen Watson — authorities said he delayed calling emergency services and concealed the murder weapon. WCYB
- ➤ A Johnson City woman was taken into custody Tuesday after a pursuit on Interstate 81 nearly ended in a collision with an agent+ the 41-year-old, Cynthia Bowman, is charged with felony eluding and is held at Southwest Virginia Regional Jail+ no injuries were reported. WCYB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Johnson City's planning commission voted Tuesday night to send the Horizon 2045 plan to the full commission — the plan will guide local growth for the next 20 years as steady community feedback was collected well in advance. WCYB
- ➤ City officials said the change is for public safety — they plan to end alcohol sales at 1 a.m. and will review an ordinance in three readings, with the first on July 17 at 6 p.m. at city hall — and later readings on August 7 and August 21 at 6 p.m. WCYB

- ➤ A developer plans to build 254 apartments on a long-vacant 21-acre site near East Oakland Avenue with a rezoning request discussed at Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting.
