ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after fireworks exploded on a barge at Boone Lake Marina, and officials said the fire was put out while the barge was destroyed; TWRA and the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office are investigating.  WCYB

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Independence Day, a tribute honored the Tester brothers who lost their lives during WWII and were raised in East Tennessee. The event displayed historical photos + war artifacts and included remarks from family members that underscored the siblings’ sacrifice.  WCYB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hannah Taylor was named director of the Sullivan County Regional Health Department by Health Commissioner Ralph Alvarado and Mayor Richard Venable after longtime director Gary Mayes retired on June 30—Taylor was formerly the department’s director of operations and holds degrees from East Tennessee State University and King University.  WFHG
