ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Emergency crews are containing a large fire at Patriot Recycling on Industrial Drive in Bristol that began on June 12 at about 3 p.m. with a pile of flammable rubber and no injuries have been reported—firefighters warn that flames may burn deep into the pile. WCYB
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tonight, a large crowd gathered at Milligan University's Seegar Chapel for Love FM’s summer concert where contemporary Christian artists Mac Powell and Dan Bremnes performed. Event coordinator April Barnes said the concert was part of the series — the final free show will take place on Thursday, July 17 at Highlands Fellowship Church. WCYB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday morning, the Johnson City Board of Commissioners passed the 2026 fiscal year budget with no changes + confirming the city’s funds remain strong. Mayor John Hunter said the budget will fund road upgrades despite a $28 million payout to sexual assault victims + and the final reading is set for June 19. WFHG
- ➤ On Wednesday, Sullivan County officials and TEMA met with community members to review the county’s updated five-year mitigation plan. Jim Bean said the plan—its first revision since Hurricane Helene—will be submitted for FEMA review within 60 days (each mitigation dollar is expected to save 6 to 8 dollars in future costs). WFHG
- ➤ Protests under the 'No Kings Day' banner will take place across the Tri-Cities on Saturday as a convoy of decorated cars leaves Jonesborough, travels through Johnson City and Bristol, and heads to Kingsport—organizers have coordinated with local police and planned a 9:30 a.m. stop at Founders Park before continuing the procession.
