EDUCATION NEWS

  • TCAT Elizabethton has opened a new facility in Boones Creek that expands its higher education and trade skill courses with new programs in building construction technology, industrial electricity, cosmetology and practical nursing—students still in high school may also take dual enrollment classes.  WFHG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A USGS study of conditions after Hurricane Helene shows no immediate landslide threats from Johnson City southward into nine North Carolina counties, but the agency warns that landslide activity may remain heightened for months or even years—especially if a strong summertime thunderstorm brings heavy rain in short periods.  WFHG

SPORTS NEWS

  • Thomas Gouge—coach of the Lady Pioneers at David Crockett High School—has resigned after a 121-32 record over five seasons that included multiple conference, district, and Region 1 titles, and the school is now seeking new coaches for both basketball teams.  WFHG
