COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department will host Covered Bridge Jams Bluegrass Jamboree at Covered Bridge Park this Saturday from 1-10 p.m.—the event will feature bluegrass bands from across the country and local acts with free admission and food trucks available for families.  WCYB
  • The local chapter of the Devoted Few Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club plans to ride 500 miles in June to raise funds and awareness for two injured Johnson County Sheriff's officers—Deputy Trevor Estrada, shot in April, and K-9 Jocko, injured in January. The fundraiser will support their recovery and strengthen backing for local law enforcement.  WCYB

  • PODS released its list ranking Tennessee cities by move-ins between January 2024 and March 2025—Knoxville ranked 8th, Nashville 9th, Chattanooga 11th, and Johnson City 14th, with the data showing the state continues to welcome new residents.  WFHG

CRIME NEWS

  • A Johnson City man 48-year-old Daniel Whitaker has been charged with attempted rape and three counts of indecent exposure after he allegedly exposed himself inside a car on Cherry Street and tried to pull someone into a bush just after midnight on May 11 with a bond of $150,000 and a next hearing scheduled for June 18.  WFHG

CULTURE NEWS

  • Officials announced the entertainment lineup for the 99th annual Appalachian Fair with performances by Crowder, Shenandoah, Zach Top, Dillon Carmichael, Lee Greenwood and Craig Campbell. The fair will run from August 18 through 23 at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray—tickets will go on sale June 25.  WFHG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is asking local citizen scientists to count wild turkeys this summer in a survey open until Aug 31 — the data will help biologists estimate turkey productivity and guide management decisions for the state.  WCYB
