CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An Alabama man, Christopher James Havrilla, 52, was arrested in March over a 23-year-old Bristol case and now faces extra charges in Blountville court for the first degree murder of Cody Scott Matney, 24, who was last seen at a West State Street bar in April 2002. The new indictments—especially aggravated kidnapping—tampering with evidence—abuse of a corpse—and two counts of false reporting have led to his $1 million bond. WFHG
- ➤ A man died after he pulled a gun on a state trooper who responded to a crash on Sunday night along Highway 11-W near the intersection with Highway 394 in Sullivan County, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is probing the incident at the request of District Attorney Barry Staubus. WCYB
- ➤ Austin Forkpa was found guilty of second-degree murder following the overdose death of 20-year-old Bueford Patton III in September 2021 +convicted of selling meth and fentanyl+ and he now faces at least 15 years in prison with sentencing scheduled for September 2. WCYB

- ➤ Carter County landfill solid waste director Robert “Chip” Chambers resigned and his final day is June 20. County officials have not yet announced who will replace him — questions about leadership continue. WCYB
- ➤ Today, Johnson City officials announced that Antioch Road between West Walnut Street and Beechwood Drive will have lane closures for paving and milling work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.—the project is expected to finish by Friday. WFHG
