BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The local farmer-owned meat processing facility has opened its 16,000 square foot space after more than three years of planning and over $10 million in construction+nearly all work is complete except for a few outdoor tasks and an upcoming USDA inspection. It will host a grand opening in mid-July and partners with Tennessee College of Applied Technology to provide hands-on training for students. WCYB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Carter County Schools has named Todd Caldwell as principal and Daniel W. Carder II as assistant principal at Happy Valley Middle School for the 2025-26 school year—both educators bring years of local experience and will start their new roles when classes resume. WCYB
- ➤ The Johnson City Board of Education voted Monday to raise the price for full-priced breakfast and lunch at Indian Trail Middle School, Liberty Bell Middle School and Science Hill High School by 25 cents for the 2025-26 school year. The change comes after school Nutrition Services cited rising food and labor costs + a financial shortfall, and the increase will take effect at the start of the new school year. WFHG
