- ➤ Second Harvest Food Bank will launch its free summer meal box distribution on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at its Kingsport location (Jericho Drive) to serve over 40,000 children, with program sites operating for 10 weeks from May 31 through July 31. WCYB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washington County School Board Superintendent Jerry Boyd will retire in June 2027 after 32 years in education and 14 as superintendent. The board will hold public interviews so teachers and community members can help select his successor. WCYB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TVA is in talks with over 150 local power companies about new rate structures for data centers as officials predict load doubling by 2030. Johnson City's local committee will present updated zoning rules on June 9 with public hearings on July 16 and August 6 (more details pending). WCYB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A Sullivan County woman, Chelsey Strickler, who received a life-saving transplant in her early twenties now seeks a new kidney donor after her current kidney began failing; she has spent several months on dialysis + urges potential donors to apply at local transplant centers. WCYB
