ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday morning in Unicoi, a crash on I-26 eastbound near mile marker 30 injured three people when a 2007 Honda Civic changed lanes and hit a Mazda— the Civic driver faces charges for driving with a suspended license and lacking financial responsibility.  WFHG

CRIME NEWS

  • Anthony Zampagna, 28 from Johnson City, was arrested on Sunday near Oak Grove Road in Bristol for his alleged involvement in the May 6th burglary of the Shell Roadrunner Market—surveillance footage linked him to the robbery and he is now held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.  WFHG

  • Hampton Elementary graduating kindergarteners received a personal video message from Peyton Manning after a challenging start to the school year forced them out of their building & the school shared the message on its Facebook page, where it has received much positive attention.  WCYB

  • Sullivan County dispatcher Wendy Doran was honored for using rapid deploy technology to guide a caller through emergency steps for saving a 7-month-old child in February. On Monday, RapidDeploy’s CEO presented her with another award—recognizing her quick response and expertise—marking a second acknowledgment of her life-saving actions.  WCYB
  • Residents in Washington County gathered over 1,200 signatures on a petition to reverse a 30-cent property tax hike approved nearly a year ago—Kevin Vrotney, a mediator and signer, said lowering unnecessary spending is key while county officials noted the increase would add over $15 million to the fiscal budget.  WCYB
  • Johnson City commissioners approved a zoning ordinance amendment on Thursday that permits data centers, including cryptocurrency mines, only in the heavy industrial I-2 zone and requires stricter guidelines + such as enclosed buildings, buffer zones near homes, and sound limits. Several residents gathered in protest to voice concerns over noise, energy use, and neighborhood impact.  WFHG

  • Savannah Jessee, a Daniel Boone High School graduate, played a key role when she hit a two-run homer in a 6-5 NCAA elimination game that sent the Liberty Flames to the Super Regionals.
