- ➤ Holston Habitat for Humanity will accept applications for its home ownership program beginning June 1. The nonprofit will choose 11 applicants for new homes in Bristol and off Moorland Drive in Johnson City, and applications must be submitted by June 26. WCYB
- ➤ The second annual 'Brunch and Bouquets' event will take place this Sunday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown starting at 1976 Flowers on West Walnut Street — participants can buy a $20 ticket to enjoy brunch specials, discounts from local businesses, and bouquet-making. WCYB
- ➤ Local foster care leaders say the region urgently needs more foster families during May’s awareness month, as nearly 70 percent of foster children have been displaced due to limited placements in Bristol. The Holston Home for Children offers resources for families interested in fostering. WCYB

- ➤ The Appalachian Fair will extend by two days and run for eight days from Aug. 22 to Aug. 29 to mark its 100th anniversary, and fair officials said the U.S. Army Golden Knights will perform with more details coming soon. WCYB

- ➤ Students at Sullivan East Middle School participated in a TVA-sponsored mobile workshop on Thursday in Bluff City. They explored careers (commercial truck driving, welding, utility work) through virtual reality and simulators. WCYB

- ➤ Rolling Thunder Tennessee Chapter Four is working to launch a POW/MIA specialty license plate to raise funds for veterans + organizers must collect 1,000 applications before state approval as the $35 plate may take up to a year to become available. WCYB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reported nine boating deaths in the state this year, including incidents on Watauga Lake and Douglas Lake. With Memorial Day weekend near, officials urge boaters to use life jackets and stay sober (critical measures to reduce accidents). WCYB
