ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, a body was found along the Nolichucky River in the 2000 block of Highway 107 and investigators said evidence points to a flood-related death+ the remains will be brought to ETSU for an autopsy. WFHG
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Church Hill police reported a fatal shooting Wednesday night when they found 43-year-old Joseph William Pennington dead in a home on the 100 block of Highland Ave — they are now seeking 24-year-old Hunter Groves, who was last seen in a red Ford F-150 Lariat with Virginia tags and faces charges of second-degree murder and firearm possession during a felony. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Johnson City commissioners approved the first reading of a change that limits where data centers, such as bitcoin mines, can operate in industrial zones. The second reading will be on May 15—when the public can comment—while city leaders say they do not plan to actively pursue data center development. WFHG
- ➤ Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger introduced the American Music Tourism Act earlier this week, requiring the Department of Commerce’s National Travel and Tourism Office to promote tourism to music venues and festivals in our region (the birthplace of country music). If passed, the department will report its findings to Congress within one year and then every two years, which could boost local businesses. WFHG
