- ➤ Johnson City Fire Department is partnering with the state to offer free fire safety education and 10-year sealed battery smoke and carbon monoxide alarms under the Get Alarmed, TN program. Eligible residents with outdated or missing alarms may request one if they live within city limits. WCYB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ David Crockett High School seniors sent a letter asking board member Keith Ervin to stay away from graduation events due next month at the ETSU Mini Dome for safety and focus on their celebration. The letter will be shared at Tuesday’s board meeting. WFHG
- ➤ Thousands of middle and high school students attended CareerQuest Tennessee at ETSU on Friday, Apr. 24 to explore career options in manufacturing, IT, healthcare and construction. Over 100 businesses and colleges held demos and 450 volunteers guided the event — offering hands-on learning. WCYB
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Due to weeks of dry conditions, local lakes have water levels below normal ahead of Memorial Day weekend boating season. Officials warn boaters to watch out for shallow spots and debris along the lakes, and they say several rain events will be needed to raise the levels. WCYB
