  • On Halloween, Tempie Davis’ family and volunteers took down what was left of their home in Butler that Helene destroyed. More than five months later, crews with the Southern Baptist Convention disaster relief are building her new home — County Mayor Larry Potter said help remains available for others recovering from the storm.  WCYB

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A school bus driver in Sullivan County was cited on Thursday for following too closely after rear-ending a Toyota Tundra near Bloomingdale Road—at 3:20 p.m.—while carrying 29 juvenile passengers, with no injuries reported.  WFHG
  • Early this morning, firefighters from Sullivan and Washington Counties responded to a fire at an apartment building along Kingsport Highway in Sullivan County—officials say no injuries were reported and the cause is being investigated.  WCYB

CRIME NEWS

  • Gary Calhoun, 66 — wanted in Tennessee since 2012 — was arrested on Thursday on Randolph Street in Bristol and is held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.  WCYB

  • Six months after Hurricane Helene caused flooding, wind damage, and landslides across 2000 acres at Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park, the park has reopened—offering nearly 19 miles of marked trails along with campsites, fishing, mountain biking, and rock climbing opportunities.  WFHG
