EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ During a Washington County School Board meeting on Thursday, board member Keith Ervin faced criticism after calling a high school senior hot and lightly touching her shoulder during her presentation; concerned parents expect the board to review the incident. WCYB
- ➤ ETSU was awarded a $130,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging to support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The funding will provide living stipends, meal plans + support training for staff to improve access to higher education. WFHG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Johnson City Commission and the Board of Education met Thursday to consider repair options for the Freedom Hall pool, including a $747,000 fix or using the Memorial Park Community Center pool. The facility closed Friday, leaving the Science Hill High School swim team without a permanent home. WFHG
- ➤ A federal resolution proposed by Congressman Morgan Griffith would allow doctors to own rural hospitals and boost competition with Ballad Health. The new rule applies to facilities more than 35 miles from major centers (a change aimed at improving patient access). WCYB
