CRIME NEWS

  • Residents in the Rice Terrace apartment complex reported hearing gunshots on Saturday morning that grazed one resident’s shoulder blade—as neighbors heard an argument near building 780 just before 5:30 a.m. and a dark-colored SUV fled the scene after officers recovered a bullet casing from a back door.  WFHG

CULTURE NEWS

  • The library is offering a range of spring music programs for all ages including sessions for little ones on April 11, 18, and 25 at 10:30 a.m., a workshop for ages 6-12 on April 15 at 6 p.m., and a music therapy session for teens on May 7 at 6 p.m. A live concert by a local horn trio is set for May 13 at 6 p.m. in the Buffalo Mountain Room and a family storytime by symphony members is planned for May 19 at 6 p.m.—tickets for some events are available at the Children's Desk upon arrival.  Johnson City Public Library

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A local group called Tri-Cities Mutual Aid is urging the Johnson City Commission to add police handling of the Sean Williams case to Thursday night’s agenda—residents are invited to attend town halls to share their views. District Attorney Steve Finney said TBI and FBI investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing—however, some community members remain doubtful amid news of a proposed $28 million settlement with victims.  WCYB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ballad Health increased security measures at its hospitals on Friday after a purported national threat by a terrorist organization was reported, and the system added concrete barriers + vehicle checkpoints and enhanced indoor security while not releasing further details for safety reasons. Further details of the emergency plan are being kept confidential.  WFHG
