ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Fire crews fought two house fires over the weekend—one on Holly Street where a campfire was pushed by high winds and another on Maple Street where a burn box ignited nearby debris—with no injuries reported. WFHG
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Elizabethton police are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday in the Dollar Tree parking lot on Hudson Drive where at 7:00 p.m. witnesses saw two people exchange gunfire, one person was shot and remains missing, and a vehicle tied to the event is under review—authorities believe the individuals were known to each other and there is no public threat. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ ETSU librarians Lydia Copeland Gwyn and Sarah Bull will lead a poetry workshop for adults on April 2 at 6 p.m. in the Library’s Jones Meeting Center—participants will use guided exercises to write vivid poems and share their work with fellow writers. Johnson City Public Library

- ➤ Senate Minority Leader Sen. Raumesh Akbari and Rep. Karen Camper introduced the Tennessee Equal Opportunities for Girls' Sports Act, which will soon be heard in the Senate to guarantee that girls get equal access to funding, facilities and resources in school sports. The bill will allocate state funds for equipment, uniforms, coach pay and travel allowances and will set up a process for handling complaints — data shows girls drop out at twice the rate of boys. - ➤ Helene's flood destroyed roads and bridges with crews reopening some, but heavy trucks on small rural roads have caused new potholes. Road officials said state repair programs and a CSX patching plan will fix the damage (Terry Haynes noted there are potholes everywhere). WCYB
