  • Food City hosted its annual Growers’ Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, Mar. 19 to honor local farmers and connect them with produce workers at its stores — farmers praised the long-standing support that helps them sustain their farms and families.  WCYB
  • Johnson County presented a plan last Thursday to build a park on 6 acres donated by Ballad Health next to the hospital. The park will feature a little league field+ walking trail+ eight pickleball courts+ parking and concessions, with a public meeting on Tuesday, March 24.  WFHG

CULTURE NEWS

  • During the ongoing Amazing America 250 celebration, local organizers spotlight the Overmountain Men and their fight for independence—an enduring part of our regional heritage. The program invites residents to explore a key chapter in our past.  WCYB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A major stormwater project at Cherokee and West Walnut will finish by the end of September to reduce flooding; once finished, the site (supported by a $3.3 million grant) will become a public park with walkways, landscaping and a pond for community education.  WCYB
  • Senate Health and Welfare Committee approved a bill that would end Ballad Health’s Certificate of Public Advantage regulation on July 1, 2028, aiming to boost health care competition in Northeast Tennessee. The measure now awaits further action in the House.  WFHG
