CRIME NEWS

  • Timothy Blair, 55, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly shot a Johnson City police officer during a call on S Barton Street (the injured officer is in stable condition and Blair is at the Washington County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond).  WCYB
  • A Kingsport woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to file false tax returns for COVID-19 relief funds and faces a sentencing hearing in Greeneville on July 9—she received nearly $1.8 million out of more than $3.4 million in refunds.  WFHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sullivan East hosted kindergartners on Thursday to show hands-on learning in career and technical education (cosmetology and culinary) while planning another event for Bluff City Elementary on Friday. This marks the 8th year the school has offered this CTE day.  WCYB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee lawmakers propose lowering the minimum age for school bus drivers from 25 to 21. If the bill passes, it will take effect on July 1—expanding the pool of drivers who complete proper training.  WFHG
