BUSINESS NEWS

  • A local developer purchased a historic building on Main Street and announced plans to open Copper & Glass, the city’s first duckpin bowling lounge, in the second half of 2026. The venue aims to refresh downtown with a boutique bowling experience.  WCYB
  • Veteran-owned Black Iris Leather Goods on Spring Street began as a custom belt project by Kristopher Yarber and his wife and now makes unique belts, wallets + carved purses for individuals and fitness companies. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will soon offer leather-making classes.  WCYB
  • Little Animals Beer Project plans to purchase the Windsor Speakeasy on West Market Street + remodel the space into a new brewery and brew pub; owner Chris Cates expects renovations to take several months with a late summer opening.  WCYB
  • BWXT launched a webpage on Jan. 9 to detail the Jonesborough plan for two uranium processing facilities and land rezone — the project claims safe operations and local benefits. The Washington County Planning Commission voted 4 to 2 against the rezoning and will issue a final vote on Jan. 26.  WCYB

  • Officials with Second Harvest Food Bank noted that Gov. Bill Lee’s office missed the early deadline for the federal summer EBT program — leaving a chance to apply by Feb. 15 to secure food benefits for local families during the break.  WFHG
