  • Action Coalition of Johnson County will celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year by hosting programs that highlight its work in addiction education and substance abuse treatment. The nonprofit opened a resource center in 2021 and employs four state-certified peers to help local residents.  WCYB
  • Cybersecurity experts advise locals to update their digital habits as the new year begins and online shopping rises, urging residents to use unique passwords, enable two-factor authentication and review cookie policies — while local voices share extra caution amid growing AI-powered scams.  WCYB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Johnson County Long Term Recovery Group sent a two-page letter to Governor Bill Lee asking for funding to keep rebuilding homes after Helene. Director Becky Wright said the group gets 2-3 new cases daily and will fall behind without extra support.  WCYB
  • The First Tennessee Human Resource Agency, based in Johnson City, received more than $120,000 in state funding to upgrade its fleet management system that serves 140 vehicles which completed over 139,000 trips last year, and it will automate maintenance reminders & fully integrate the new system by next fiscal quarter.  WCYB
